Solitude Palace lives up to its name, built by Duke Carl Eugen he appreciated the isolated location because it was “far from the turmoil and disappointments of the world.” Whatever his need for solitude was, today visitors can enjoy this quiet and beautiful castle built in the Rococo style castle in 1764-1775. It is even more beautiful after its renovation from 1972 to 1983. Today it is the home of the Academy Castle Solitude, founded in 1990, a Swabian "Villa Massimo" for art scholarship holders from around the world who have been given living, working and exhibition space in the cavalier's buildings.
Visitors can only see the inside rooms with a guided tour, but the enchanting grounds are open to stroll through during visiting hours.
