Now that spring is here, get your body moving and fill your lungs hiking through Saxony. Saxony has excellent hiking trails for all levels, ages or party sizes. Germany’s most beloved and popular hiking trail runs right through the region, the “Malerweg” or Painter’s Path located in the impressive Elbe Sandstone Mountains. The Painter’s Path in the National Park Saxon Switzerland features a plethora of bizarrely formed rocks, densely wooded areas, wild and romantic gorges plus majestic table mountains. It is named Painter’s Path because of the many painters that have been attracted to this incredible scenery such as Ludwig Richter and Caspar David Friedrich.
This is only one of many beautiful hiking trails in the region. Saxony Tourism has created routes for visitors on their website, making it easy to choose your terrain and level of difficulty.
