Germany Southwest Germany, or the state of Baden-Württemberg, is Germany’s third largest state in terms of area and population. The state is located in the southwest of Germany bordered by France, Austria, Switzerland, Bavaria in the west and Hessen in the north. Stuttgart, the capital, is only two hours by direct train from Frankfurt and short flights from Munich and Zürich. Large companies such as SAP, Bosch and Daimler and Porsche are cornerstones of the economy as are optics and engineering and even toys. Tourism is also an important part of the economy and it is an incredible destination for car lovers, spa lovers, family travelers and culture seekers.
